Eduardo Martín
From the evidenceto the treatment couch.
I design how the musculoskeletal system should be treated, I run that model, I teach it at university and I research it. And I still apply it myself, with my own hands and with the ultrasound probe in them.
I founded Avanza Salud on one simple idea: that the evidence should stop staying in conference halls and reach the treatment couch.
I saw too many patients bouncing between the podiatrist and the physiotherapist with nobody looking at the whole system, and too many diagnoses made by eye. So I decided to qualify in both disciplines, to learn to see the injury on ultrasound before treating it, and to build a clinic where I design the model, run it, teach it and research it.
And I still treat patients myself.
From the treatment room to running a clinic
Twenty years of adding one thing to the next: first the hands, then the foot, then ultrasound, then the university, Olympic sport and, in the end, my own clinic.
- 2005 · Registered physiotherapist
I started with my hands
Born and raised in La Laguna, I travelled to Madrid to train. Diplomado en Fisioterapia (Diploma in Physiotherapy, Universidad Alfonso X El Sabio). Registered with the Madrid physiotherapy council (no. 7458) and, since 2012, with the Physiotherapy Council of the Canary Islands (no. 1959).
- 2006 · Real Madrid CF
I learned from elite sport
During the Experto en Fisioterapia Deportiva (University Expert in Sports Physiotherapy) I trained with the medical services of Real Madrid CF at the Valdebebas training ground. That same year I began working with the Spanish national volleyball squads.
- 2008 · Registered podiatrist
I added the foot: two ways of looking
Diplomado en Podología (Diploma in Podiatry, Universidad Alfonso X El Sabio); since then I have looked at the foot and the rest of the body as one system. Registered with the Madrid podiatry council (no. 2328) and, since 2018, with the Podiatry Council of the Canary Islands (no. 838380149).
- 2012 · Madrid and the Canary Islands
A practice on two shores
I transferred my physiotherapy registration to the Canary Islands council and for six years, until 2018, I split my clinical work between Madrid and home.
- 2013 · Ultrasound in the clinic
See before you treat
Musculoskeletal ultrasound came into my clinic: locating the injury and guiding treatment in real time. In 2022 I backed it up with the qualification in Ecografía Musculoesquelética Diagnóstica (Diagnostic Musculoskeletal Ultrasound) from the Universidad Complutense de Madrid.
- 2016 · Rio de Janeiro
Accredited at an Olympic Games
Accredited by the Royal Spanish Volleyball Federation (RFEVB) at the Rio Games, treating beach volleyball athletes.
- 2017 · Universidad Europea de Canarias
I started teaching what I do
University lecturer since January 2017: I teach Técnicas Especiales en Fisioterapia (Advanced Techniques in Physiotherapy) and coordinated the Physiotherapy degree between 2019 and 2023. I took part in launching a new degree, today a point of reference in the health sciences.
- 2020 · Tokyo
I chose to stay
I took part in the preparation for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic cycle, but I did not travel: in the middle of the pandemic I did not want to be away from my son.
- 2024 · Avanza Salud · Paris
I founded my own clinic
I founded and run Avanza Salud in La Laguna, a multidisciplinary model with diagnostic imaging. That same year, accredited again by the Royal Spanish Volleyball Federation (RFEVB) at the Paris Games.
- Today · PhD candidate
I research what I treat
PhD candidate in health sciences. I study infrared thermography and artificial intelligence to detect the diabetic foot earlier.
I do not just treat.
I run a clinical model.
Avanza Salud is not just another practice. It is a multidisciplinary model where diagnostic imaging comes into the treatment room, protocols rest on the evidence and a team works in a coordinated way. That is not improvised: it is managed, and to manage it I also trained in healthcare management.
01
See before you treat
Ultrasound is part of every assessment. I do not guess: I see the tissue in real time and choose the exact technique for your injury.
02
One single view
Podiatry and physiotherapy in the same clinician. The foot and the rest of the body, treated as one system.
03
Evidence, not intuition
What I research and teach at university is what I then apply in clinic. Decisions with something behind them, no hype.
04
Adding, not competing
I complement what your doctor or your dentist does. I add a second view with diagnostic imaging, I do not replace theirs.
Student satisfaction
Outstanding
While I was in charge of the Physiotherapy degree (2019-2023), the programme reached an outstanding rating in its quality and satisfaction indicators (NPS):
- Overall satisfaction with the programme
- Likelihood of recommending the degree (NPS)
- Satisfaction with the teaching
- Satisfaction with the clinical placements
Academic leadership
A new degree
I took part in creating and coordinating a university degree, today a point of reference in the health sciences in the Canary Islands. Running a degree means leading people, standards and quality.
- Coordinator of the Physiotherapy degree (2019-2023)
- Launch of the new programme
- Teaching Técnicas Especiales en Fisioterapia
- Ten final-year dissertations supervised
Team
Multidisciplinary
I lead the Avanza Salud team: podiatry, physiotherapy and return-to-sport rehabilitation coordinated under a single model of care and quality.
- Podiatry, physiotherapy and return-to-sport rehabilitation
- Diagnostic imaging in the treatment room
- Evidence-based protocols
- A single quality system
The training behind it
MBA en Emprendimiento e Innovación en Salud
MBA in Health Entrepreneurship and Innovation · Universidad EUNEIZ
I teach and research what I then apply
Ten years training physiotherapists
Lecturer at the Universidad Europea de Canarias since January 2017. I coordinated the Physiotherapy degree between 2019 and 2023, I teach Técnicas Especiales en Fisioterapia and I have supervised ten final-year dissertations.
I lead teaching innovation projects: active learning methods, clinical simulation, gamification and the integration of artificial intelligence into university education, including practical assessment with clinical cases simulated by AI.
I co-organised the I Jornada de Fisioterapia en el Deporte (First Conference on Physiotherapy in Sport), with close to 2,000 attendees, and I speak at conferences on educational innovation in the health sciences.

PhD candidate and researcher
PhD candidate in health sciences. I am researching how low-cost infrared thermography and artificial intelligence can bring forward the detection of the diabetic foot. Member of the applied neuroscience research group.
Low-cost infrared thermography for the early detection of the diabetic foot.
Practical assessment using clinical cases simulated with artificial intelligence.
Setting up a journal club for physiotherapy students.
And I still treat with my hands
All that management, teaching and research ends in the same place: treating your problem well, with the right technique for each injury.
Musculoskeletal ultrasound
Seeing the tissue in real time to locate the injury and guide each treatment precisely.
Ultrasound-guided intervention
EPI and EPTE, percutaneous neuromodulation, dry needling and ultrasound-guided injections.
Podiatric surgery
Minimally invasive surgery and nail surgery, trained with AEMIS, SECP and the Universitat de Vic.
Manual therapy
Kaltenborn-Evjenth orthopaedic manual therapy, diacutaneous fibrolysis and clinical neurodynamics.
Two Olympic Games
Since 2006 I have worked with the Spanish national volleyball squads, including the senior sides, and since 2014 with beach volleyball. Accredited by the Real Federación Española de Voleibol (Royal Spanish Volleyball Federation, RFEVB) at the Rio 2016 and Paris 2024 Games. More than 22 international events in 12 countries, including World and European championships and the Major series.
I trained with the medical services of Real Madrid CF during the Experto en Fisioterapia Deportiva, and I treat top-level endurance athletes, from triathlon to trail running.
