About us
Eduardo Martín, podiatrist and physiotherapist

The person behind
every step.

"Two decades giving people back their movement, their balance and their lives."

I am Eduardo Martín, born and raised in La Laguna, a podiatrist and physiotherapist registered in Spain, with more than two decades spent understanding human movement from the ground up. I founded Avanza Salud on one conviction: every person deserves a solution of their own, not a generic protocol.

I combine advanced biomechanical analysis with a close, human approach. Technology is a tool, but listening carefully is the real diagnosis.

Leadership & Management
Liliana Fernández, director and manager

The leadership that makes
every advance possible.

"Four Olympic Games taught me that excellence is a habit."

I am Liliana Fernández, director and head of operations at the centre. Four Olympic Games shaped the way I think: strong results come from daily discipline, teamwork and a constant search for improvement. That is the same philosophy I bring to running Avanza Salud.

I make sure that every process, every detail and every interaction works to the same standard we offer in the treatment room: organisation, efficiency and a human touch that always makes the difference.

Frequently asked questions

Answers before your first visit

The questions our patients ask us most.

How much does a first appointment cost?
Ask us for a quote, with no obligation. Fees depend on the service: podiatry, physiotherapy, gait analysis, custom Podonexus orthoses, ultrasound-guided injections or return-to-sport rehabilitation. At your first visit we carry out a full assessment and give you a personalised treatment plan with its cost set out in detail, so there are no surprises. Call us on +34 647 773 675 or message us on WhatsApp and we will talk it through.
Do you work with private health insurers?
We work privately. We do not bill insurers directly, but we give you an itemised invoice covering every item, so you can claim reimbursement from your insurer. Many companies (DKV, Adeslas, Sanitas, Asisa and others) cover part of the cost on plans that include outpatient care. Ask your own insurer what paperwork it needs.
Is there parking near the clinic?
Yes. The closest are Parking Las Quinteras (the one we currently recommend, a 2 minute walk from the clinic) and Parking del Adelantado (being refurbished, so check availability). We are next to the Plaza del Adelantado and La Laguna town hall, with street-level access from any direction.
How long does the first appointment last?
We allow enough time for a full, unhurried assessment: 45 minutes for podiatry (routine foot care, general assessment and treatment plan) and 45 minutes for the gait analysis. They are two separate services: some patients come only for podiatry, others only for the gait analysis, and others for both, depending on the problem. For physiotherapy and return-to-sport rehabilitation we allow 60 minutes per session. At later sessions the time is adjusted to what each patient needs.
How do I cancel or change my appointment?
Let us know on WhatsApp at +34 647 773 675 or by phone on either of our numbers: +34 647 773 675 (mobile) or +34 922 125 496 (landline), at least 24 hours in advance. That way we can rearrange the diary and offer the slot to another patient who is waiting. If something unexpected comes up at the last minute (illness, an urgent matter), tell us as soon as you can and we will find the best alternative together.
Do you see children? (Paediatric podiatry)
Yes. We see children and teenagers from the age of 3 through adolescence, and earlier if needed. We deal with what comes up most at this stage: toe walking, flat or high-arched feet, pain when running or playing sport, ingrown toenails and changes in how the foot is growing. The paediatric gait analysis is adapted to the age and maturity of the child and to the stage of development of the foot. We work at a calm, patient pace, building trust from the first visit.
What should I bring to my first appointment?
We suggest coming in comfortable clothes and bringing any relevant previous medical reports: X-rays, ultrasound scans, blood tests, earlier diagnoses or your regular medication. For the gait analysis we recommend shorts or leggings, so we can properly assess how your knees and hips line up during the examination. It also helps a lot if you bring the shoes you wear most from day to day and, if you play sport, your training shoes.
Do you perform surgery?
Yes. We carry out nail surgery in the clinic itself to resolve ingrown toenails and other nail problems under local anaesthetic. It is a day-case procedure: you walk in and you walk out, with a straightforward recovery and clear instructions for care at home. For more complex cases, or ones that need major surgery, we refer to hospitals and colleagues we trust.
Do you carry out diabetic foot assessments?
Yes. We carry out full diabetic foot assessments: vascular examination (pulse palpation, capillary refill time), neurological examination (protective sensation, vibration, proprioception) and biomechanical assessment, to pick up ulcers or injury risk early. It is one of our areas of special interest within podiatry, in line with the research we carry out. We recommend a review every 6 to 12 months depending on the level of risk, and we work alongside the medical team following the patient whenever that is needed.
Do you have diagnostic imaging at the clinic?
Yes. In the clinic itself we have low-dose digital radiography (up to 70% less exposure than a conventional unit) and musculoskeletal ultrasound. This lets us assess precisely and guide advanced techniques, such as ultrasound-guided injections with PRP or hyaluronic acid, in the same appointment, with no referral elsewhere and no waiting list. Radiography confirms fractures, bone changes or how a surgical site is healing; ultrasound gives real-time information on soft tissue, tendons and fascia.
Is the clinic accessible? Is there accessible parking?
Yes. We are at street level in a ground-floor unit, with no steps or architectural barriers, in the historic centre of La Laguna and close to a pedestrian zone. There are accessible parking bays opposite the entrance and the clinic is set up for easy access with a wheelchair, pushchair, walking frame or crutches. Reception, the waiting room and the treatment rooms are all on one level, with no steps in between.
Are Podonexus orthoses custom-made? How long do they last?
Yes. Podonexus orthoses are 100% custom-made and manufactured entirely in the Canary Islands from your gait analysis. They are made from flexible technical materials, with no rigid components, so they adapt and feel comfortable from the first day. They last 3 to 5 years on average, depending on use. We design them around each activity: walking, running, impact sport, long days on your feet or a specific clinical need (diabetic foot, heel spur, plantar fasciitis).
Do you see neurodivergent patients?
Yes. We see neurodivergent people (autism, ADHD, sensory or communication differences) and adapt the pace of the appointment, the language we use and the environment (light, sound, timing) to each person. If you prefer, we can prepare the visit in advance: explain beforehand what will happen, give you the first or last slot of the day when the waiting room is quieter, or adjust how long it takes. Message us on WhatsApp and we will arrange it.
